We all have lightbulb moments in life.

You know those moments; when you think you’re going to do something before realizing that doing it is going to put you in an incredibly uncomfortable position. They can be called lightbulb moments or “oh crap” moments – change “crap” to the word of your choice if you’d like. It could be anything, really. It could be agreeing to go to a football game before realizing that you couldn’t care less about any of the teams playing. Or, it could be taking a phone call for a meeting before the fact that you hate every word that comes out of the person’s mouth dawns on you.

Or, it could be starting a podcast right in the thick of election season.

I’ve gone on record before about how I hate the election season in this country; be it a Democrat, Republican, or Tea Party “Patriot” candidate. I don’t like them as a group, and I don’t like some of them as people. But, the lightbulb clicked in my head that these people are going to be in the news every day, the attack ads are going to run on an infinite loops, and there isn’t going to be enough alcohol in the world to alleviate that.

I made a promise, though; I said I was going to do this, and I am a man of my word. I won’t let the constant stream of hate and vitriol seep into my podcasts, and I won’t talk about them every show. I’m certain there will be other things on my mind than the debates and political discourse in this country. It’ll be my job to figure out how to navigate those waters without driving myself insane.

Well, more insane.

At the very least, if I can’t escape it, then maybe I can have fun with it. So, that’s what I’ll try to do if it happens.
