In case you were unaware, the majority of the country is undergoing a bit of a freeze. So much so, that we’ve been experiencing colder than normal weather in the Gulf Coast. Well, the cold weather has had a an unexpected occurrence for us down here.

After dropping my daughter off at school, I took a different route home. Instead of going straight down like I normally do, I went west first. It was then when I noticed a clanking sound coming from outside. I wasn’t quite sure what it was, so I started looking out my window trying to find something. It was then when I saw it. It was small and white, and there was a lot of it.

We got sleet down here for the first time in decades. It was the first time I had seen sleet in at least ten years – if not more. For my daughter, it was the first time EVER. Most of us probably can’t remember the first time we ever experienced something so wondrous, so I can only imagine what went through her mind when they called all of the children out of their classes and let them play for a while. When I picked her up, I asked her if she had fun playing in the sleet, and her answer was an enthusiastic “yes.”

One of the great things about having a child is seeing the world through their eyes. Seeing her eyes light up as she talked about the sleet was a sight to behold. I can’t wait until the next time it happens.
