First things first, I’m trying trying out a new service that’ll help me actually post more to my blog. Currently, I average about one post a week, and it’s normally on movies. Either that, or it’s on something that irritated me that day. I don’t know if this will work, or if I’ll be completely overwhelmed, but it’s worth a shot.

Now, the question is, “What’s your favorite summer memory?” I actually had to sit for a while to think about what my favorite summer memory was, because to be honest, I drew a blank. After a little bit of recollection, I think my favorite memory would have to be the summer of 2000.

In the summer of 2000, I was a member of the United States Navy, and I served on the USS Donald Cook. The ship was about three years old itself, and we were taking the ship on its inaugural Mediterranean Cruise. This was my first time going overseas, and I was looking forward to it. I was especially looking forward to spending my birthday in France.

Why?

Because my birthday is on July 14th, and that is Bastille Day throughout France. For those who don’t know, Bastille Day is French Independence Day, and they had a party outside of this world. We pulled into Villefranche-sur-Mer on July 13, and most of that day was unmemorable. I may have had watch that day, but I don’t quite remember off the top of my head. Anyway, the 13th was unimportant.

On July 14, I woke up and met up with one of my best friends Germean. We hopped on the small boat and went to the city. The city was absolutely beautiful! We spent most of the day going between Villefranche and Monaco, and that culminated in a big festival that night. There was singing, dancing, and fireworks. It was a great time, and a memory that I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

To this day, no birthday has ever come close to duplicating that experience, and I think the only thing that would top it would be if I went back. I wouldn’t mind, though; it would be completely worth it.
